I’d love to be your guide
Hormonal birth control may have been prescribed to you first as a solution to you menstrual troubles like painful, heavy or irregular periods with its secondary use being the preventing pregnancy part. This is a common story, that leaves many folks feeling disconnected from their bodies and their innate creativity.
Hormonal birth control works by overriding the body’s natural sex hormones, not by actually balancing them. Sure, it can help to ease certain uncomfortable symptoms, but at what cost? The Pill has it’s own list of side effects like, mood changes, headaches, breast tenderness to name a few. It can deplete and impair absorption of certain essential nutrients, it can disrupt gut flora and vaginal pH and it stops ovulation. When we don’t ovulate, any bleed that occurs when using the pill is not actually a real menstrual bleed. It’s called a breakthrough bleed and it happens with the drop in hormones when you stop using the active Pill for a week.
Ovulation is a vital sign of our overall hormone health. It means that estrogen, follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone have reached their threshold and caused ovulation to happen and then progesterone can rise. Progesterone is a building and reparative hormone as it has calming effects on the nervous system, can help with sleep, it builds bones, supports immune and thyroid function.. so without ovulation, there is no rise in progesterone, therefore none of it’s health benefits.
When our hormonal imbalances are bandaged over and ovulation ceases, there is an inevitable rough patch to endure when we rip the bandage off. That’s where I’d like to help!
If you experienced uncomfortable period symptoms or diagnoses before starting birth control and you’re concerned about them resurfacing when you go off the Pill, I am here to validate your concerns as well as reassure you that a return to balance is possible. Your body awareness and desire to experience your natural cycles again is a key step in the process.
Fertility isn’t just about conceiving a child, it’s about connecting with your innate creativity.
Like the changing of seasons and the phases of the moon, the menstrual cycle can be seen as an alchemical process. We change, ebb and flow, wax and wane, as the creative process unfolds.
You are an alchemist, so are the plants. Co-create with them.
